Consolation Prize

What a sad state of affairs the average worker lives in. They often work with people they can’t stand, are underpaid for the work they perform and fall victim to the devil that is office politics. I would have never thought in a million years I would see so many grown people functioning in mediocrity and being ok with it. The thing that kills me however is the consolation prizes they go crazy over. One such phenomenon that baffles the hell out me is dress down fridays. They recently introduced it at my job and a riot was bout to break out but the insurrection was quelled when they were notified they would have two pay $2 every time they did so. They low talked and complained amongst themselves about how it aint right and some other bs but when Friday came they had their regular clothes on laughing and joking happy to be in street clothes. They looked at me crazy when I came in my regular work clothes. They asked why I didn’t dress down and I told them I refused to be pimped and be ok with it. I broke the game down like this. If everybody pays $2 every week that’s 8 a month. 300 people work here that’s 2400 a month. Now if you times that by 12 you get 28,880. That’s damn near a year’s salary. How many parties are they gonna throw the employees on that. Not to mention they are going to write that money off and not pay a lick of tax on it. I told them I would be cool with it if at the end of the year they gave that money back to us in the form of a bonus. That’s more than fair. As E-40 would say you could hear a spider piss on napkin. As kings and more importantly as a men you should never be ok with settling for less especially if it doesn’t sit right with your spirit. Nothing in my spirit would allow me to be ok with paying my employer to wear my own clothes. The vast majority of people are already defeated so to them a consolation prize is better than no prize at all. Allow the fire in your heart and your eyes to burn past these fools even if it’s at a snails pace.
