Elevator Speech

On this road to the throne opportunities don’t come too often in the beginning when your name isn’t ringing bells. You believe in yourself but the rest of the world doesn’t give a rat’s ass about your ambition and vision. As a result, a lot of times you aren’t prepared for chance encounters. If you are serious about your kingdom you need to develop an elevator speech.

As a homegirl of mine put it so eloquently, an elevator speech is summing up you, what you do and how you can be of benefit to the particular fish you are trying to get on the hook. Its called an elevator speech because it needs to be short, concise and engaging enough to capture the persons attention in an unorthodox way.

This is the hustle equivalent of up and coming rappers back in the day having a fire verse on deck at all times because they never knew when their opportunity to blow would appear. Many people have got record deals simply off a verse or freestyle. You entire life can change in an instant if are you hungry as you say you are. It’s also called an elevator speech because it shouldn’t be any longer than the duration of the ride.

You can’t come across too hungry tho; its an art and you have to be subtle and guise it as casual conversation. People that are at the top of the food chain are use to countless people coming up to them and pitching either ideas or services. What separates you from the crowd? What’s separates your big idea or service from the guy in line at Chipotle that asked for your mark’s ear 20 minutes prior?

If you are selling tacos explain why your guacamole is better than the Mexican place down the block. It doesn’t matter what it is you are slangin; always oversell your product or service but do so in way that is believable and profitable. Many opportunities have came your way but you have failed to capitalize simply because your preparation skills aren’t up to par.

When the universe is conspiring on your behalf, hold up your end of the deal. You didn’t start building your kingdom to performing exercises in futility. Just another jewel for your crown; stay regal.
