In adult high school aka the workplace many of the same social constructs such as cliques still exist. You got the quote on quote cool kids that sit together at the same table and all go out to lunch at payday. You have the apple fanboys foolin with their ipads wetting their pants over the possibility of the latest jailbreak. You have the club rats talking about their latest conquests and then you have the lunch break lepers. The lepers have no alliance to any of these groups. These are the people that go to lunch by themselves. They go to sleep in their cars, bring bag lunches or just generally stay below the social radar. In my opinion these are the smartest people. By forming no alliance they are able to maneuver the minefield of office politics while keeping their dignity and reputation intact. The very nature of an office is very school like. You have to be there at a certain time, you have to dress a certain way and you have to play nice with people you don’t really like. The lunch break leper realizes that a job is nothing more than a way to pay their bills. These are the walking ghosts; the people you don’t even know are there unless somebody calls their name or you see them walking in the hallway. To the leper the job is a small part of their life but to everyone else there it is their life. The leper is the kid that is a nobody in school but the man outside. They are also smart enough to realize that the people in cliques are alienating themselves and want no parts of it. I salute all fellow lepers out there. You aren’t crazy for steering clear of the bullshit; you are actually the sanest person there. Let them have high school; by not associating with the cliques you demonstrate that you aren’t a follower and don’t have time for bullshit. Those small minded people with fancy titles will never be on your level even tho they may be higher up in the pecking order. Stay an outcast. When it’s time for the shepherds to cull the herd guess who will still be there? The lunch break leper. King on.
