First and foremost rest in peace to King Trayvon Martin. I know his family is hurting right now and I can’t even imagine the pain they are experiencing. For those unfamiliar with the story, Trayvon was a 17 year old that lost his life to the hands of a overzealous neighborhood watch captain. The incident occurred when he was returning home from a local store with snacks. The bastard that shot him is George Zimmerman who has gone into hiding after the incident. Apparently Zimmerman called 911 to report a suspicious person in his neighborhood. He was following Trayvon around the neighborhood like a predator does to his pray. He then proceeded to confront Trayvon and the shooting occurred. What’s more disgusting is the police are not pursuing him and bringing him up on charges. The police are sticking up for this bastard and lying on his background to make it look like he is some squeaky clean guy that has never had a run in with the law which is the furthest thing from the truth.
So a 17 year old losing his life for no reason is ok? I guess the police department figures that a black person losing his life is no big deal. Had it been a little white kid Zimmerman would have been arrested on sight. I’ve seen it before and I”m seeing again; in this society a black life is not valued. The potential that this young man possessed was robbed from the world because he fit the description in that racist’s eyes. A black family couldn’t possibly live in that gated community. It’s funny that no matter how hard his father worked to get them into that community, his son was still viewed as suspect. All the years of hard work and struggle that his father had to endure to reach that level in life didn’t really matter; he was still black.
I’m sure this young man had hope and dreams that will never materialize now. He could have came up with the cure for cancer or aids but we will never know now because his life was marginalized. I am fed up about always hearing stories like this. No one deserves to die because of the emotions and insecurities of someone else. Black life is just a precious as any other race of life which is in itself a ridiculous concept. There is no race but the human race; all of which stems from Africa.
This incident is a microcosm of race politics. Not all young black men desire to be thugs, gangsters and lowlifes. However if your only representation of black folks comes from the media programming which constantly depicts us as the former, your perception of us is flawed. No other race has been demonized more than us. If I remember correctly we didn’t ask to come here from Africa, we were kidnapped. Yet we are portrayed as sex crazed, violent, materialistic animals. We set no policies that affect every walk of life in this country yet we are public enemy number one. How is that possible? Just some food for thought; R.I.P Trayvon Martin may you rest with kings.
